The trek embarks with 30-40 minutes scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu (TIA) to Lukla (Tenzing-Hillary airport); the gateway to the Himalayas. Lukla airport is the highest airport in Nepal and also one of the most dangerous airstrips in the world with just a single runway over a cliff.

The day at Namche will be the day for exploration and acclimatization. Health expertise suggests acclimation is necessary in Everest region trek to avoid Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). On this day, the guides arrange short trek from Namche to other Sherpa settlements in the Khumjung valley.
The short trip heads towards the Everest view hotel, one of the world’s highest hotels in the world for tea break and also for panoramic view of Mt. Khumbila (5,761m), Mt. Thamserku (6,623m), Mt. Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m) and Ama Dablam (6,812m). The trail then climbs uphill to Khumjung and Knude village with the physically fit trekkers. The trekkers with weak physical fitness can return to the lodge at Namche.
The main climax of the trip is to visit Khumjung Gompa and Khumjung Hillary school which was established by Sir Edmund Hillary in 1961. After inspecting Khumjung Gompa and school, drop down to another Sherpa village, Kunde which is renowned for ‘Hillary hospital’: the largest hospital of Khumjung region established in 1966.
The hike from Kunde to Namche lands at Syangboche airstrip on foot. The airstrip is a non-commercial airport and has unpaved narrow runway which is only used by helicopters to carry trekkers if they fall sick, injured or on special demand. Enjoy the breath-taking picturesque scenery of Namche village from the runway. The trail follows the zigzag gravel path to Zarok and finally to Namche. Get refreshed at Namche and save energy for the remaining trek.
Plea: During acclimatization at Namche, avoid unhygienic food, beer, alcohol or other beverages. It may risk your health and increase chances of AMS.

Day 7 : Acclimatization and Exploration day at Dengboche:

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is a common risk to few trekkers while trekking above 4,000 meters in the Everest region.  Health experts suggest to acclimatize at Dingboche before conquering Everest Base Camp trek.
Hiking in Dengboche is the best way to enjoy the rest day, climate, landscape, tradition, in Chhukung valley. The sun appears late till evening and the breeze is soft, so the short excursion to Nangkar Tshang peak (5,616m) is awe-inspiring. On the way to Dengboche, Nangkar Tshang Gompa smiles at you.  Observe the delicate art, buddhist statues, stupa before heading to Nangkar Tshang summit.
The trail to Nangkar Tshang is steep uphill and demands extra physical stamina; but your struggle rewards you with the glistering sight of Island peak (6,189m), Thamserku (6623m), Ama Dablam (6,856m), Mt. Makalu (8,463m) along with other few peaks.
After spending some time at top, the trail drops down to Dengboche. Enjoy the summer valley with warm food and cozy lodge.

Day 8 : Dingboche (4,410m/14,467ft) to Lobuche (4,940m/16,206ft):

After breakfast at Dengboche, the trail trials though rocky boulders to Dusa and inclines along the ridge to Dughla village. The ridge offers the fantastic view of countless peaks: Taboche (6,542m), Cholatse (6,440m), Ama Dablam (6,856m), Pumori (7,161m), Khumbutse (6,636) and Lhotse (8,516m) which makes the strenuous trail easy and painless.
From Dughla, the trail traces along the moraine glacial formed by Khumbu glacial. On the way are many tea shops which are purposefully built to offer rest and closeup view of the Awi Peak (5,245m). Henceforth, the next stop Lobuche is just few minutes away. Overnight, stay at lodge at Lobuche.

Day 9 : Lobutse (4,940m/16,206ft) – Gorakshep (5,164m/) - Everest Base Camp (5,364m) – Gorakshep (5,164m)

The concluding trial to Everest Base Camp traces from Lobuche through narrow mountain gaps, glacial moraine alongside the world’s highest glacier, Khumbu glacier. As the trial elevated further higher, some may feel symptoms of AMS like nuisance, vomiting and mild headache. Walk slowly but steadily to avoid AMS.
After walking for 2-3 hours through rocky path, we get at the last human settlement, Gorakshep. The climate of the village is too cold as it is located at the elevation of 5,164 m. Gorakshep is the junction from where the path separates to Kalapatthar and EBC. Only physically fit trekker can ascend and descend Kala Patthar on the same day while other trekkers keep the hike to Kala Patthar for next day.
The trail from here now is full of sand pit and boulders which makes the trek more strenuous. Never lose hope! Be motivated! The best moment of your life is awaiting you at a few distance. It takes 2 hours to reach at the destination, Everest Base Camp.
Once you subjugate the Base camp (5,364m), all the pain will be faded away by the tranquil scenery of Khumbu ice fall, sparkling view of mountain peaks. Celebrate your triumph. Observe the 360-degree Himalayan range, pose for the photo, take rest and get saturated before heading to Gorakshep. There are limited Lodges at Gorakshep so it is normal if the lodges are crowded.
Caution: Gorakshep is sandy and flat village. So, don’t forget to carry the gears like sunglasses, hat and thin scarf to protect yourself from strong icy breeze and sandy mud.

The trekkers trekking in Everest region dream for the splendid view of Mt. Everest which is not possible from EBC; hence, side trip to Kala Patthar summit (5,644m) is the perfect spot recommended by the experts. It almost takes 2-3 hours to reach at Kala Patthar from Gorakshep. So, many trekkers start their trek before the dawn. The summit offers the gleaming view of Mt. Everest (8848m) along with Lingtren (6,749m), Khumbutse (6,636m), Nuptse (7,861m), Pumori (7,161m). Capture the Himalayan range in your soul or camera and also Savor tantalizing panorama at the peak for few hours before descending to Gorakshep.
After delicate breakfast at Gorakshep, the journey from the land of Himalayas advances to the next optimum level as helicopter lands at Gorakshep for the airlift. The helicopter tour offers the aerial view of cerulean landscape, Khumbu glacier and glittering Himalayan range. With the electrifying 15 minutes flight and spellbind scenery, the helicopter lands at Lukla airport. Eventually, the final day trek wraps up with a commercial flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. I am a 61 year old woman. I'm relatively active but I was unsure if I had the endurance for the Everest Base Camp hike. My husband went 3 years ago and had a great enough experience with Mountain Mart that he wanted to use them again. We were also able to get the same guide, Makar Tamang. Makar has great English skills and is really knowledgeable about the region, the wildlife, vegetation and, of course, the mountains. He assured me I could do it. We kept a good pace meaning up with the other hikers, but slower than the porters. (They are amazing.) Makar took our oxygen levels each evening to be sure we were physically ok. Best of all, I made it! Makar has a fun personality as well as being caring. Our group was always laughing. We had great card games in the tea houses along the way. A great guide really helps on an expedition such as this.
We had another guide, Gorkha. He is cheerful and lots of fun too. They are very respectful and watch out for their cargo, (us). We had such an enjoyable time with our guides.
Dolakh is the owner of Mountain Mart. He was great at arranging transportation from the airport to our hotel and back and forth many times. He helped us jump through the Covid testing requirements. He knew about the hotels in the area and helped us choose a lovely spot. He helped arrange tours in Kathmandu.

Just completed the 10 days Everest basecamp trek! It was a breath taking experience :)

Communication with dolakh was easy and he answered all our questions when we were planning our trip. He was able to accommodate our travel dates even though they weren’t listed on the website.

The EBC Heli Trekking package included 10 day EBC trek and 2 nights in Everest boutique Hotel in Kathmandu.

Our guide Lochan was excellent. He is so funny and I was glad to have him as a guide. He is very knowledgeable about the mountains and altitude sickness. He checked out vitals/assessed our wellbeing every night. He speaks English very well also.

Dawa our porter was also very friendly and it was a pleasure having him as part of our group. He accompanied us on our acclimatizing days as well as some other days and it was nice to talk with him too, he’s such a strong hiker. He makes a delicious fresh apple pie ::yum::

In the end my friend and I both made it to EBC successfully and I would say I was very satisfied with the services provided by mountain mart (dolakh, lochan, and dawa).

It is not an easy trek by any means, but reaching the goal was so sweet. I also made it to kala Patthar summit, I highly recommend the extra effort to do that hike because the view is absolutely stunning.

There were a few easy days, but it was pretty physically tough and also mentally tough with the colder temperatures. Over all though it was an amazing adventure and I’d recommended it to anyone who really wants to take on the challenge.

The trail continues to the first stop of the trek Phakding offering spectacular demonstration of the prayer wheels, mantras painted Mani stones and gompas. It takes about 1-2 hours of inclined walk to reach the village Phakding.

Day 4 : Acclimatization and Exploration day:

Trip Reviews (2)
